Remember how excited I was about the idea of a clothing swap? Saturday I participated in the home accessories version of that same concept, hosted by the good people at Sit + Sip. It was at the Youngstown Cultural Arts Center in West Seattle, and is, I think, perfectly timed for our current economic conditions as well as for the state of a planet already overburdened by stuff.
I have certainly done my part as a consumer, and admittedly was thrilled when I was able to give a modern tweak to my place with the addition of a few select pieces from IKEA. This home accessories swap, though, gave me the chance to pass along some items that were sitting unused in the closet, and come home with a set of dinner plates and two other serving dishes. For a nominal entry fee I now have a few new things that I will actually use, and can feel good about the fact that anything remaining after the event was donated to Children’s Hospital Thrift Stores. I’m already thinking about what to take to the next swap…
